AB: WWE Hell in a Cell is finally back and I am ecstatic for it to get here on Sunday night. This pay per view has some brilliant stories coming into it from the Smackdown brand and a few of these matches just have that big fight feel to it. Also, the Fashion files will be making its return at Hell in a Cell so it’s safe to say I’m already all in. Smackdown has been the more superior show recently which leads me to think they will also put on an exciting PPV. I’m going to predict that HIAC is an A- show that provides thrilling spots and a few classic matches fans will look back on down the road.
Hell in a Cell Match– Shane McMahon vs. Kevin Owens
SE: (Owens) Shane will put up a good fight but at the end Owens will destroy McMahon (expect big spot with the cell because Shane always has a high spot). B+
AB: Kevin Owens (A)
CC: (Owens) There is no denying McMahon’s ability to get guys over by being a human punching bag. This may be the push that Owens needs to slingshot him into the spotlight for good (shake n’ bake, baby). A-
WWE Championship Match– Jinder Mahal (c) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura
SE: (Shinsuke) Jinder and the Singh Bros will do everything in their power to screw Shinsuke again but he will overcome and win his first WWE Title. B-
AB: Shinsuke Nakamura (C+)
CC: The WWE India Tour is right around the corner. That is all you need to know to predict that Jinder will hold onto the belt while the WWE taps into the international market. B-
SmackDown Women’s Championship Match- Natalya (c) vs. Charlotte Flair
SE: (Nattie) It’s too early for her to drop the title and with 2 other titles changing I don’t see Charlotte beating Nattie again. B
AB: Charlotte Flair (B+)
CC: With the possibility of Asuka debuting on Smackdown’s roster, Charlotte would be the better champion to dethrone. However, until the Smackdown Women’s Division gets an adrenaline shot of talent from rising stars or new signings, I see no reason to take the belt off Natalya. B
SmackDown Tag Team Championship Hell in a Cell Match- The New Day (c) vs. The Usos
SE: (New Day) This will be the match of the night, every time these teams go at it, it is something special, but I can’t see the Usos flipping the titles once again. A+
AB: The Usos (A)
CC: I must agree with Shawn with The New Day. As it was proven when Sheamus and Cesaro defeated The New Day on Raw, no tag team is better at building value for tag team championships like The New Day. A
United States Championship Match– AJ Styles (c) vs. Baron Corbin
SE: (Corbin) After he was screwed out of his MITB contract, Corbin should get a high profiled win at HIAC vs AJ, this will also get the title off of AJ for bigger things down the road. B-
AB: AJ Styles (B-)
CC: The question going into this match is what the WWE values more: giving Corbin a fresh start to his early main roster career or continuing to build AJ Styles as one of the top guys in the company. I think the latter is more probable at this point. B
Bobby Roode vs. Dolph Ziggler
SE: (Roode) Does anyone actually think Roode will lose his main roster PPV debut…I don’t. C+
AB: Bobby Roode vs Dolph Ziggler: Bobby Roode (C+)
CC: To echo Shawn’s statement: who thinks Roode will lose his first PPV match to the declining Dolph Ziggler? B-
Randy Orton vs. Rusev
SE: (Rusev) I honestly think Orton will win, but I refuse not to pick Rusev. They have treated him like garbage and it’s time for a change with a win over The Viper. C-
AB: Randy Orton vs Rusev: Rusev (C)
CC: This matchup reeks of 50/50 booking. Orton can only defeat Rusev so much before the feud becomes a prolonged squash match. Rusev will win and get a key for the rest of the Balkans. C
WWE Hell in a Cell Kickoff Match- Chad Gable & Shelton Benjamin vs. The Hype Bros
SE: (Gable/Benjamin) I mean, why wouldn’t they win? They are facing the Hype Bros. C
AB: Gable & Benjamin vs Hype Bros: Gable/Benjamin (C-)
CC: The Hype Bros are one loss away from Zack Ryder finally turning heel. Hopefully this is the moment it happens. C+
SE: Toilet break match will unfortunately be Rusev vs Orton simply because I can’t stand watching Randy Orton wrestle, Go Handsome Rusev!
AB: Bathroom Break for me is likely going to be Randy Orton Vs Rusev. I’m a huge Rusev guy so I’m hoping for the best here, but lately everything they are doing with him doesn’t have me invested. I would like to soon be re-invested in Rusev though and I think he needs this win to take a step towards that direction of being dominant Rusev once again. As far as Randy Orton goes, his current role with the company is extremely boring for such a legendary superstar with so much past success.
CC: Call me Frank because here comes my red-hot take for this PPV. Fans who are waiting for Shinsuke Nakamura to finally take the top spot in the Smackdown brand are in for a huge disappointment. WWE has gone back and forth on what they think the audience perception of Mahal should be. Is he the “racist evil foreigner” or is he just misunderstood? Who knows at this point. This whole experiment with Mahal as champion has been a mess for everyone involved.
SE: Match of the night will be the Tag Title Match between The New Day and The Usos. Look for a lot of fun spots and close counts. Nothing these two teams do together is bad.
AB: I’m giving this one to The New Day vs The Usos for the tag team championships. The build up to this match has been excellent by the superstars on both sides. I really think this has all the material to have fans extremely invested throughout the entirety of the match. It may possibly end up being a match of the year candidate as far as main roster performances. The New Day and The Usos have been feuding for some time now and each time they square off they do something new that makes me want more. The promos they cut on Smackdown Live are just all-around great to keep everyone invested. Super excited for this match, it has show-stopper written all over it. Expect several crazy spots in this one.
CC: It seems we are all in agreement with The New Day and The Usos stealing the show once again in their PPV matchup. These guys have the type of chemistry that makes every match feel fresh despite how often they are booked together.
